“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23-24
Most people complain more about their work than any other area of life. I’ve been there too, but it makes me tired and heartbroken because God desires so much more for our lives.
In this life we are meant to work and God has called each of us to a certain type of work. Our skills, gifts, talents and interests combine to display who God has designed us to be.
Your work may look different than mine or different than someone else, but all work is significant. Regardless of the type of work, you are showing who God made you to be with the world. Any upstanding work is significant to society, to your family, and in service to God.
This week choose joy at work, and do it cheerfully as you serve the Lord!
