Is Vacation Bible School (VBS) something my child will enjoy? Is VBS just for little kids? Why should I send my kids to VBS? Is Vacation Bible School like it was back when I was a child?
These are all questions that many parents ask when they are considering signing their kiddos up for VBS. Vacation Bible School can be a great week for your kids. From meeting new friends to learning about God, kids are in for a great week! Here are 3 reasons why we believe VBS can be the best week of your kids’ summer!
Meeting New Friends
VBS is all about building relationships. From meeting new kids to getting to know their crew leader, kids start building relationships from day 1. They are grouped together with other kids in small groups usually of 5-8 kids. This way the adult in each crew isn’t overwhelmed and can spend time getting to really know each child in their group. This is also great for kids because they can begin to build real relationships with other kids without feeling overwhelmed.
We group kids in multiple age crews rather than age specific crews. This is good for the kindergarteners as well as the 5th graders. Younger kids can look up to the older kids in their crew and the older ones get to be leaders to the younger kids. There is less of a competitive nature between kids and they tend to work together rather than against one another. Preschoolers (age 3-5) do however get grouped together because we design part of the program just for them that is age appropriate.
The Message
All week at VBS kids hear about the love of Jesus Christ. They hear many bible stories in ways that connect to their lives right where they are. We want to present the gospel to them in a way they understand.
Each day there is a big idea that we are teaching. This big idea is used in all areas from the main bible lesson to games, crafts, and even science! No matter what kind of learner your child is, we do our best to present the lesson in a way that they can connect with it! We want them to leave VBS each day not only being able to tell you what they learned but how it affects their life. We want kids to experience life change-not just leave with head knowledge.
Fun!
We want kids to LOVE coming to VBS. If it is their first time walking in to our church, if they come every week, if they are a 5th grade boy, or a preschool girl…we want them to enjoy their week coming to VBS.
Everything we do is HIGH ENERGY! From worship and skits to games we try to get the kids actively involved and out of their seats. We know that most kids do not learn their best when they are sitting still and quiet. So our goal is to get them to get up and move and participate in hands on activities so that all of their senses are involved.
We want kids to understand that coming to church doesn’t have to be boring and rigid. Our hope is that church can be a place where they grow in their faith, have fun, and build a community of people around them to encourage them in their faith.
We’d love to see your kids here!
So, do you think your kids would enjoy coming to VBS? Well we will be hosting our VBS here at One Life Church August 7-10. Our theme this year is Power Up: Taking your faith to the next level. Kids will experience a video game themed week including Minecraft, Mario Brothers, Pacman, Tetris, and more! Through these video games, kids will learn how to grow deeper in their faith. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and our Kids Page for more information and when you can pre-register your kids!
